Gary Lang was born in the Houston area. Gary started his career in the culinary arena with his introduction to Bennie Ferrell Catering Service. His grandmother and aunt both worked as supervisors for Bennie Ferrell. In that position, they instilled in him the need to not only provide customers with outstanding food, but provide them with great service as well. Bennie Ferrell had an outstanding reputation in the Houston area for fine food. This formed the foundation for Gary’s culinary training.
While in school, Gary worked approximately six years as the Maitre D’ for Braeburn Country Club. While at Braeburn, he personally cooked food at the clients table. He cooked such culinary selections as Pepper Steaks, Rump Onion Steaks, Ceasar Salads, Bananas Foster and Cherries Jubilee. After spreading his wings, he joined forces with some of the top caterers in the Houston area such as Ruth Sandling, Shirley Norman, Imogene Moreland, Susan Mayfield, and Lucille Miller. These inspirations in his life allowed him to develop a firm foundation in his culinary career.
Joyce Laverne Lang was born in Center, Texas, on December 19th,. Early on in her childhood she expressed a desire to pursue her culinary skills. Her desire to cook was expressed in a need to not only cook the traditional soul food meals, but she wanted to cook foods that were revered from the far ends of the earth. Her training was presented to her in a non-traditional way and that was through several top caterers in the Houston area. Joyce spent approximately 15 years entrenched in practical culinary training at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. At the Museum she learned to cook exotic soups, finger sandwiches, luscious desserts and an array of entrees too numerous to list.
Joyce's formal training came with her on-the-job training from some of Houston’s top caterers such as Imogene Moreland, Jackson-Hicks and Susan Mayfield. Through her enormous experience level, Joyce has been catapulted into an elite position. That expressed position would allow her to continue to provide top quality food that could be judged on its taste, presentation, and quality. Joyce has cooked and served President George Bush Sr., President George Bush Jr. and President Bill Clinton, Melanie Lawson, Rev. Bill Lawson, and Dr. Marcus D. Cosby to name a few.
Langstead's Reservations Only Catering was founded by Gary and Joyce Lang with the vision of creating Houston's finest catering company. Before creating their first dish, they vowed to use only the finest ingredients, and prepare each dish with a sense of passion and creativity. Their dishes have received rave reviews ever since.
